PCOS Symptom Screener
Quick answer
Counts how many of six common PCOS symptom patterns — irregular cycles, excess hair growth, persistent acne, scalp thinning, weight struggles and family history — you recognise in yourself. A conversation-starter for discussing PCOS with a doctor, not a diagnosis: confirming PCOS requires bloodwork and/or an ultrasound.

How the screener works
Each "yes" adds 1 point — no weighting, no clinical algorithm:
0–1 markers → "Lower symptom overlap"
2–3 markers → "Some symptom overlap"
4+ markers → "Several symptom markers present"
The markers loosely mirror the symptom categories behind the Rotterdam criteria (ovulatory, clinical, metabolic), but this tool deliberately does not attempt to replicate the actual diagnostic criteria, which require bloodwork and ultrasound.
Worked example
- 1
A 24-year-old says yes to irregular periods, excess facial/chin hair and persistent acne, and no to the other three markers.
- 2
That is 3 of 6 markers → "Some symptom overlap".
- 3
The result suggests mentioning it at a check-up — it does not tell her she has PCOS.
Reading your result
| Your result | Category | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 0–1 markers | Lower symptom overlap | You recognise few or none of the common PCOS symptom patterns. Many people with this result recognise nothing or only one — no particular concern is indicated. |
| 2–3 markers | Some symptom overlap | Overlap like this can have many causes — stress, thyroid conditions, perimenopause and others — so it is worth discussing at a check-up rather than assuming PCOS. |
| 4+ markers | Several symptom markers present | Enough overlap that a doctor visit for hormone bloodwork and/or an ultrasound is recommended. |
PCOS can only be diagnosed by a doctor using blood tests and/or an ultrasound (Rotterdam criteria). This tool only checks how many common symptom patterns you recognize in yourself — it is not a diagnosis, and it does not estimate likelihood as a percentage or produce a clinical score.
